Biography of Aly
Aly’s love of art began in middle school; however, she did not pursue her “unknown passion” until her freshman year at Dixie State University. Del Parson was her portrait instructor and Aly was hooked after her first completed portrait. She then furthered her education at Brigham Young University, graduation with a BA in Illustration Art in 2014. She studied with the talented William Whittaker, a portrait artist, in Provo, Utah for a year. She was then mentored for two years by the renowned artist Casey Childs. She loved observing Casey create and his personal approach to tutoring allowed her to fine tune her skills. Her focus in art was portraits. With her love of portraits, she could look beyond the form and see into the eyes and heart of the person she was sketching. She loved to work with mediums of pencil, charcoal and oil. Aly had a passion for learning and creating, whether that be through primitive art, leather work or creating fire with a bow or hand drill. Creating was always a part of Aly’s being. She was a gifted artist whose life was taken too soon. The art that truly inspired her most, was the work of the creator.
Above and beyond art, Aly Jenkins is love, empathy, acceptance, kindness, and quiet strength. She had the ability to see a person. To hear a person was more important than to be heard. As many have said, “she is so easy to love.” Her legacy will live on not only because of her unique, beautiful gifts of painting and sketching, but mostly because of the gift of her “way of being” and her empathy and love for others. A favorite quote of Aly’s is “The point of life’s walk is not where or how far I move my feet but how I am moved in my heart.” We love and miss you dearly, Aly.
